LABVIEW and Epson Robot Training

Yesterday, I was fortunately to be able to attend two training provided by National Instrument (NI) and Epson company at Singapore.

In the NI training workshop, we able to learn LabView, which is stand for Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering Workbench. It is a very well-known system-design platform for industry.

LabVIEW is a highly productive development environment for creating custom applications that interact with real-world data or signals in fields such as science and engineering. With the graphical programming provided in the LabView, we can easily design system for different kind of application like motion control, robot navigation, image processing and etc.

We learnt the fundamental knowledge in data acquisition. In just few step, we can easily acquire the temperature and display in GUI with the use of the DAQ card. By using LabView, we can really reduce the development time and fasten the commercialization process.

After this training, we went for another robot training in Epson company.

I always have an impression that Epson is only doing the printer business, but actually they are also doing great in the robot manufacturing business. You can have a look on their website if you are interested, http://robots.epson.com/

They provided different kind of robot series that able to fit for different application. Their robots can be used in supply (sorting, aligning and  loading) , assembly, inspection and packing process. Here are the three type of their robot demonstration video.

This is one of the robot demonstration they showed us for the use in supply process using vision system. In this process, the conveyor will transfer the component and the component will be captured by the camera, then the robot will load the part and unload in a set orientation. I like their vision support system, as the calibration for different part detection can be easily configured in just less than five minutes.

Here is their 6 axis robot during the demonstration. With EPSON C3 which have the best in class cycle times, precision and motion range, their robots are leading the industry for compact 6-axis robots.

Besides that, Epson also developed the robot simulator software for the customer to simulate the whole process with the use of the Epson robot. It is very useful, because the customer can simulate the process to improve the process time cycle before applying the real system in their company.

This video show how their robot simulator works.

These workshops really helps me a lot in exploring the potential of my future development! Thank to Eric for this training arrangement!

After the whole day long training, we then have our dinner at Vivo!

I like their slogan, "LIVE with Passion"! =)

The Truth is always Weird

"The truth is always weird", it is a nice phrase which is used by my department leader all the way long doing robot’s mechanism.

Girupakaran, a creative person that I look up to. Thanks to his inspiration and motivation, I learnt a lot in the Robocon team.

It is true that the "thing" will not be the "thing" that you think.

Most of the times when we talk about the theoretical concept by logical thinking we cannot really predict what are we going to get at the end, unless we carry out it into PRACTICAL.

The truth is always weird, there are a lot of thing that we cannot really predict what we are going to get until the end.
Most of the time, we are limited by the cultural thinking of our own thought.

Everything is possible, just the way how you think.
As there is million kind of ways in doing a task. You are the one who will decide how you complete it.
There is no task that cannot be done; just the way that how you want it to be done.

“… that is impossible!!!”
Sometimes, people are keeping telling themselves that the thing is impossible to be done.
They are actually limiting themselves into a tiny box when they said the words.
Try to think out of the box, as we should believe ourselves that, we can do it better and better.

Just do it before you say:” it is impossible!”
Everything is possible in our life; we should push our limit beyond the limit that we set for ourselves.

And do not scare of the problem that you will face, because you should know that ……….
You can solve it!!!

Here, I would like to thanks all my seniors, especially those who are from the mechanism department giving me the opportunity in exploring in the world of mechanism, it is tough…..but it is really nice when we create something that we want to…

Innovate Malaysia Design Competition 2013

Congratulation to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) for getting 2 First Prizes and 6 consolation prizes in the 3rd Innovate Malaysia Design Competition (IMDC).

8 finalist teams from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia won 2 First Prizes and 6 consolation prizes
Innovate Malaysia Design Competition is a multi-discipline engineering design competition open to all final year undergraduate engineering or computer science students in Malaysia. The goal of the contest is to promote innovation culture and mindsets among university graduates, to enhance knowledge and skill set in practical engineering and promote greater interest in engineering design, with collaboration of MDec, TalentCorp, IEM, Agilent, Altera, Intel, National Instriments, Siltera, CEDC and DreamCatcher.

This year, there were 256 applications submitted from 20 universities and UTM had 8 teams shortlisted to the finalist from the total of only 25 teams.

All the efforts had finally paid off, we managed to win the First Prize in 2013 Innovate Malaysia Design Competition under Intel track! Here, we would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone, who supported us throughout this competition!

Thanks to therapists from NASAM (National Stroke Association of Malaysia) and Hospital Sultanah Aminah for providing their great support and physiotherapy expertise to make this project a successful one.

Team members of MY024-Compact Rehabilitation Robot (First Prize in Intel track)

I was pleased to meet great team members like Patrick and Suan Kian, they are both talented and we really have a wonderful moment together in going through all the challenges. Most importantly, greatest thanks to Dr.Yeong for his dedicated guidance, support and motivation! Without him, we would not able to achieve what we have until today.

Suan Kian, the embedded  control programmer and I
Nicholas, one of the judges from Intel was playing the virtual reality games of the robot

Besides that, I was really happy to be part of the team and also feel grateful to get the CREST Research Assistance Award study grant, so that I can continue my research for this project in UTM.

YB Senator Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid bin Omar, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Economic Planning Unit presented the CREST Research Assistant Award to me.

Having great time during the presentation of the robot to YB Senator and other industrial experts

By joining this competition, we gained a lot of knowledge and practical experiences from industrial experts. For me, it is indeed a great platform for the student to turn their imagination into reality using the aids of the technologies and expertise from industrial.

This competition truly exposed undergraduates to more industrial experience and make them better prepared for the outside world. Therefore, I strongly encourage the related engineering undergraduate to take part in the coming competition. For those who is interested, they can register at the official website for 2014 Innovate Malaysia Design Competition : http://innovate.dreamcatcher.asia/

Congratulation to all the winner from different tracks.

First prizes winner from all tracks
Well, the story will not end here, because we will continue to strive for this journey and hopefully one day we can make this Dream a reality!

SolidWorks 3D CAD Training

Thanks to IME Technology for giving 1 day free Solidwork training.Yesterday, we attended a free workshop organized by the IME Technolog at Johor. It was a great chance for us to improve the cad drawing skill. During the workshop, we able to learn the latest features of 2013 Solidwork, 2D sketching, 3D modeling, simulation and walk-through animation. It was worth to attend the course, as I'm able to learn the technique that commonly used in Solidwork that can greatly improve the design process and quality.
